The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology to contribute to our undergraduate psychology provision. The Faculty currently offers undergraduate programmes in Criminology with Psychology, Childhood and Youth Studies with Psychology, Early Childhood Studies with Psychology and Sociology with Psychology. The successful candidate will deliver a faculty wide level 4 Introduction to Social Psychology module from September and contribute to the development of further psychology modules at levels 5 and 6.
The successful candidate will have a commitment to working across disciplines and will be able to work effectively with colleagues to develop an exciting and relevant psychology curriculum. There are opportunities for the development of additional programmes with psychology within the Faculty and so for the Senior Lecturer post, experience of successful curriculum development at unit and course level is essential.
We welcome applications from people working in all areas of social psychology, but candidates with research interests linked to themes in education, sociology or criminology will be particularly welcome. The Faculty houses the Centre for European and International Studies Research, which provides a focus for interdisciplinary research in humanities and social sciences and was placed in the top 10 institutions nationally for impact and research intensity in Area Studies in REF2014.
The Faculty offers courses and engages in research across a wide range of subjects including criminology, education, languages and area studies, journalism, sociology, politics and international relations. The University of Portsmouth is in the top 2% of the world’s universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016 and one of the world’s top 150 universities under 50.
Applicants are required to have specialist knowledge of social psychology evidenced by a doctorate or equivalent and relevant higher education learning, teaching and assessment experience.
