Interview date: 26 September 2017

The University of Portsmouth is one of the world’s Top 100 ‘Young Universities’. With 23,000 students, 3000 staff and a turnover of £250m, we are one of only four Universities in the South East rated ‘Gold’ in the Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework. We are also in the Guardian’s top 40 universities and consistently perform well in national and global league tables.

As major employers and educators in Portsmouth, we also have a very strong commitment to our local community and take seriously our role in helping to combat educational deprivation and promote social justice in our unique city.

We are now entering an exciting period of very significant capital investment in the University’s infrastructure to ensure we continue to offer excellent learning environment. As part of this commitment, we are creating a new post of Deputy Director of Finance. As one of two Deputies, you will report into the Director of Finance, who sits on the University's Executive Board. Your role will focus particularly on driving forwards our strategic financial planning, management information, development of business cases, commercial analysis and budgeting, as well as deputising for the Director when necessary. You will have significant exposure to Governors and senior leaders across the University and play a key role in the strategic planning that goes into many of our ambitious projects and developments.

To succeed, you will be a qualified accountant with a very strong, progressive approach to financial management. You will relish the opportunity to take our management accounting to the next level, working with your committed team to deliver a first class service to our budget holders. You will bring excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a very wide range of stakeholders. Curious, positive, engaging and committed to improvement, you will be seen as an enabler within our organisation, bringing your professional skills and commercial acumen to drive forwards our mission.

In return, we offer the opportunity to join us at an exciting time in a newly created role where you can make a real impact within a positive, lively and diverse organisation and develop yourself as an aspiring Director.
