Group Manager B £44,018 - £48,796

Plus a 20% Flexi Duty System allowance

Part of West Sussex County Council, the Communities and Public Protection (CPP) executive directorate wants to ensure people are more than just residents or employees but also members of a safer, stronger and more resilient community.

The CPP directorate brings together a range of skills, backgrounds and experience that we believe will help deliver our strategic aims across the county.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is at the heart of the CPP directorate and looking for talented people to fill current and future Group Manager vacancies.

To deliver real benefits to the people we serve, we are seeking to appoint individuals who:

  • able to demonstrate high levels of personal resilience,
  • have proven leadership ability,
  • possess enthusiasm, agility, drive and commitment to make a genuine difference.

Additionally, to be successful applicants will be required to demonstrate an ability to assimilate information to enable sound and reasoned decision making. They will also be required to demonstrate a thorough understanding of national and local fire service risks and opportunities.

A condition of the appointment to the role of flexible duty Group Manager is that the post holder will provide operational cover from within the County. We are unable to offer relocation expenses.

Successful completion of the selection process will see applicants placed in a pool for a period of 12 months, with initial appointments being made in November 2017.

Applicants who were shortlisted for previous 2017 processes will not be required to submit an application form but should indicate their intention to enter this process by email

An updated, current line manager endorsement will be required and should be submitted

To be successful in your application you will need to provide evidence of the skills and qualifications detailed in the Role Profile, along with your ability to demonstrate the West Sussex County Council Values.

Applications are welcome from existing Group Managers and substantive competent Wholetime Station Managers.

The process will consist of:

  •  Key Skill Application and manager’s reference
  • Group Discussion
  • Presentation and interview

Please note that these vacancies are being advertised on behalf of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. They are open to serving operational fire service personnel both in WSFRS and other local authority fire services.

The selection process will run from the 30th October – 17th November 2017.
